The Dallas Morning News reported onFebruary 10, 2012 regarding serious power issues to come this summer if Texas experiences weather conditions similar to last year’s. Record breaking temperatures last summer along with little to no rain has left electricity reserves and water reservoirs low, both of which are necessary for the power grid to operate properly. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas(ERCOT) reported to state leaders that this past summer “pushed the state’s electricity grid to its limits”. While no rotating power outages occurred last summer, experts are urging consumers to conserve, and even that might not be enough.
In addition, the financial crisis is contributing by limiting access to financing needed to build new power sources. ERCOT’s president, H.B. Doggett stated, “…if no more power plants are built, the state will fall short of reserve capacity to keep the grid running starting next year.” Growing population demands for Texas’ 23 million residents and an outdated electricity grid are partly to blame for this issue as well.
Reliability of electricity is a growing concern in Texas and fortunately, Lentz Services has partnered with Generac Generators to provide a solution. When the power goes out, your Generac home generator turns on, helping keep your home safe, secure and comfortable regardless of what the Texas weather brings. A home generator is a great solution for emergency use during inclement weather as well as electricity shortages, something that could become much more common in the near future for Texas.
